Teamstudio® Delivers Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) Tools with Support for IBM Lotus Notes® Version 8; Solutions Address IT Governance Require

(PRWEB) November 15, 2007 -- Teamstudio Edition 24 contains major enhancements to its flagship products that boost development team efficiency. For instance, a key feature of the new version of Teamstudio CIAO!® is the new branching and merging support. Branching enables development teams to create a copy of an application allowing them to work on separate versions of an application concurrently. Doing concurrent development in branches eliminates the risk that changes to applications, which have not been approved for promotion, are not inadvertently included in a bug fix release.

In addition to branching, the merging feature within Teamstudio CIAO! and also Teamstudio Delta brings improved efficiencies as application changes no longer have to be redone in two different places. Changes made in the branch copy are quickly identified by CIAO! so they can be selectively merged back to the main application.

"For the most part, IT organizations rarely work on one version of an application in isolation. Many times, there are multiple development teams working on multiple changes to an application, each with different release schedules," said Craig Schumann, Teamstudio Senior Vice President of Research & Development. "One team could be working on changes to the 2.0 version, while another team is completing updates to version 1.5 of the same application. Branching basically allows developers to continue working on new features while still being able to support older versions of the application design."

Another major new feature of Teamstudio CIAO! is the ability to integrate with an issue tracking system. During development of an application all design changes are completely and automatically documented by Teamstudio CIAO! providing a clear audit trail of who made what changes, when, and why. Ideally each change should also have a documented enhancement request or bug report that coincides with these changes. Previously, it was up to the developer to make sure that this information was recorded with each check in.

With the new issue tracking support in CIAO!, tracking this critical information becomes an automatic and enforceable process. This comprehensive audit trail enables development teams to achieve compliance and respond to regulatory audits with an automated report of all changes made to business-critical applications.

"Within the typical Lotus Notes environment, developers, managers and auditors lack an audit trail to allow traceability of changes made to code. This can be costly to any organization facing an audit where they are required to track the history for mission-critical applications," said Ian Smith, President of Teamstudio. "Teamstudio CIAO! allows development organizations to produce a complete audit trail of all design changes by individual developer, including when and why those changes were made. This new technology is a major step forward in achieving a high level of IT governance within the development phase of ALM."
